John Fury is threatening to price himself out of a fight with Carl Froch. Fury, father to former heavyweight world champion Tyson and influencer boxer Tommy, has repeatedly called out British boxing legend Froch who this week agreed to fight the 61-year-old. But Fury is demanding £2.5 million to fight the former super-middleweight despite previously having been offered £1 million.
Fury's Demands
“I’ll sign the dotted line. Let’s get it on!” Fury told Fight Your Corner. “Get me a two-and-a-half million quid contract. We don't need a long time away because at 61, I ain't got that long. I want to make history I'll be the first 61-year-old man in history to take on a three-time Hall of Famer in Carl Froch. I can't wait.”
“I'm bringing a lot into the ring because I've got my son there. I got Tommy there. Do you think I'm going to embarrass myself by not fighting? I’m fighting. It's on like Donkey Kong.”
Background of the Feud
After Tommy's win over Eddie Hall last weekend, Fury Sr sent a message to Froch. "He’s an embarrassment to Nottingham. Carl, the worm, Froch," he said. "You know them championship belts he won, don’t you? He wants to give them to somebody with a pair of nuts, because let me tell you, he’s no street fighter. I’m a street fighter. It took 20 men to hold me there tonight. There’s no 12 stone man, or 13 stone man, going to do any good with me."
Froch Responds
Froch, who has already accepted the fight once, has now responded. "I'm ready. I'm ready to fight. I've got I ain't got a problem with putting a bully in his place," he said on his YouTube channel. "But it got serious because he asked Kalle [Sauerland] and Kalle said, 'Listen, I can do the fight. No problem.' He hasn't priced himself out; not yet anyway, and it looks like he's being serious. So, there's a chance that this fight might actually get made if John doesn't vanish like he did last time."
