Manchester City have officially confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager, with the Italian signing a three-year deal at the Etihad Stadium. Maresca succeeds Pep Guardiola, who departed at the end of last season.
Compensation Deal Finalised
City wrapped up compensation negotiations with Chelsea, Maresca's former club which he left in January, agreeing an eight-figure sum. The process took longer than anticipated, delaying the announcement.
Previous Stints at City
The 46-year-old previously managed City's Under-21 side in the 2020-21 season and served as Guardiola's assistant during the 2022-23 Treble-winning campaign. He also had a brief, unsuccessful tenure at Parma between his two City spells.
Recent Success at Chelsea
Maresca led Leicester City to Premier League promotion before joining Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. City were impressed by his coaching development and familiarity with the club's setup.
Upcoming Fixtures
Maresca will take charge during City's pre-season tour of Asia, facing Inter Milan, the K-League All Stars, and Atletico Madrid. His first competitive match is the Community Shield against Arsenal on August 16, followed by a Premier League opener at home to Bournemouth a week later.
