Jake Paul's Emotional Reaction as Fiancée Jutta Leerdam Wins Olympic Gold

Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam secured a stunning victory in the Women's 1000 metres final at the Winter Olympics, breaking the Olympic record and reducing her fiancé, internet personality Jake Paul, to tears in an emotional behind-the-scenes moment.

Record-Breaking Performance on the Ice

Leerdam, a two-time world champion, delivered an exceptional performance at the Fiera Milano Rho complex, the speed skating venue for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games. She clocked a remarkable time of 1:12.31, setting a new Olympic record in the process.

This achievement was particularly impressive as it came minutes after her Dutch teammate, Femke Kok, had already broken the previous record set by Japan's Miho Takagi in Beijing four years earlier. Leerdam's time was 0.28 seconds faster than Kok's, demonstrating her dominance in the final heat of the day.

Emotional Celebration Away from the Track

Following her victory, Leerdam shared a touching moment with Jake Paul away from the public eye. Paul lifted his fiancée into his arms, and the couple exchanged a kiss in a private celebration that captured the intensity of the achievement.

Paul, visibly moved by the performance, broke down in tears immediately after watching Leerdam cross the finish line ahead of Takagi. He later took to Instagram to express his pride, posting: "We just witnessed one of the most important sporting moments ever. The doc will tell. Words can't describe how proud of you I am, Jutta Leerdam."

Leerdam's Career-Defining Achievement

For Leerdam, this gold medal represents a significant milestone in her career. In the 2022 Winter Olympics, she had won silver, finishing 0.64 seconds behind Takagi's then-record time of 1:13.19. This time, the defending champion Takagi had to settle for bronze.

Reflecting on the pressure of competing in the final pair after Kok's record-breaking run, Leerdam said: "Everyone saw how hard a position I had in the last pair, after a super good time. For everyone, it was surreal. It feels very amazing. Just like a cherry on top of my career, basically. It's amazing. It's perfect."

The new champion acknowledged her own emotional response with a laugh, noting: "My makeup was everywhere. But that's a good thing, I think."

Magnanimous Response from Competitors

Kok, who finished with silver, showed sportsmanship in her response to being beaten. She commented: "I knew it was a good time, so maybe it was enough for gold. But she was just a little bit faster. I can only respect that."

Paul echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of the back-to-back record-breaking performances: "After Femke [Kok] hit the Olympic record, then SHE breaks the Olympic record. Just the best thing ever."
