Wimbledon star Jessica Bouzas was forced to adjust her on-court attire after nearly violating the tournament's strict all-white dress code. The Spaniard, ranked 52nd in the world, comfortably defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 6-3 on Court 17, but the match official noticed a black undershirt becoming slightly visible around her lower back towards the end of the match.
Official Warning After Match
After the game, Bouzas stood on court looking up at the umpire as spectators cleared out. She explained the discussion to Movistar Plus Deportes: "A problem here is that they are very strict with many things. I think it was a bit of black here, and you can't do that, so I will have to sort it out. But yes, they are very strict with things like this, so now I'll see how I can fix it."
Wimbledon's All-White Rules
Wimbledon's stringent guidelines state: "Competitors must be dressed in suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white and this applies from the point at which the player enters the court surround. White does not include off white or cream. There should be no solid mass or panel of colouring. A single trim of colour around the neckline and around the cuff of the sleeves is acceptable but must be no wider than one centimetre (10mm). Colour contained within patterns will be measured as if it is a solid mass of colour and should be within the one centimetre guide. Logos formed by variations of material or patterns are not acceptable."
Next Match and Grand Slam Ambitions
Bouzas moved into a second-round showdown with Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska after beating Potapova. Yastremska caused more problems but Bouzas prevailed in three sets, needing just one more victory to match her best-ever Grand Slam performance, having reached the fourth round at SW19 last year.
