Red Bull has unveiled a dramatic overhaul of its Formula 1 driver line-up for the 2026 season, headlined by the promotion of a British teenager and the axing of a popular team member.
New Faces and a Shocking Departure
The most significant move sees Isack Hadjar promoted to partner Max Verstappen at the senior Red Bull Racing team. The 21-year-old Frenchman, who enjoyed a standout rookie season, will face the immense challenge of racing alongside the three-time world champion from next year.
In a parallel bombshell, the team confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda will not have a race seat in 2026. The Japanese driver, a fan favourite known for his vibrant personality, will make his 111th and final Grand Prix start for now at this weekend's Abu Dhabi finale.
British Teenager Secures Dream Debut
The most eye-catching promotion is that of 18-year-old British driver Arvid Lindblad. The teenager will make his Formula 1 debut with Red Bull's junior team, Racing Bulls. "It's a proud moment to take this step," an elated Lindblad stated upon the announcement.
His promotion significantly bolsters the British contingent on the grid for 2026. Six of the 22 drivers will be British: Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, George Russell, Alex Albon (who races under the Thai flag), Oliver Bearman, and now Arvid Lindblad.
Reshuffle and Reserve Roles
Elsewhere in the Red Bull stable, Liam Lawson has been retained by Racing Bulls. The New Zealander recovered well after a confidence-shaking demotion from the senior team early in the 2025 season.
While Tsunoda loses his race seat, he remains within the Red Bull family. He will take on the role of test and reserve driver for Red Bull Racing and will also be a reserve for Racing Bulls when Ayumu Iwasa is unavailable.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies explained the decisions, saying: "We believe Isack can thrive alongside Max and produce the magic on track. Everyone in the sport would agree it is impossible not to like Yuki, his personality is infectious, and he has become a very special part of the Red Bull family. He will provide invaluable support to the 2026 projects moving forwards."
