Reporter Ryan Taylor was inside the Azteca Stadium and recording the England celebrations after they beat Mexico when Jordan Henderson suffered an arm injury. Henderson was one of the first England stars to burst onto the pitch as the full-time whistle blew following their win against Mexico.
Henderson's Limited World Cup Minutes
The footballer has only played a handful of minutes at this tournament, although he's been booked twice. However, that hasn't stopped him from making his mark at his fourth World Cup. But there's now a chance that Henderson's kicked his last ball of the competition, after he suffered what has been described as a wrist injury.
As the Three Lions do, they serenaded their fans and jumped over the advertising boards behind the goal to sing the iconic Oasis hit Wonderwall. After the rendition was over, Henderson tried to jump over the advertising boards. But he appeared to lose his grip, dropping to the floor. He hurt himself in the process of doing that and was clearly in a lot of pain as he lay on the floor, the Mirror reports.
Teammates and Medical Staff React
At the time, it wasn't clear exactly what had happened as a number of players formed a huddle around him, which at first appeared to be part of the celebrations. It then emerged Henderson was in a bad way. Reporter Ryan Taylor accidentally managed to capture what happened in the aftermath of the Oasis singalong. Dan Burn was first on the scene to help his team-mate. Thankfully, it wasn't long before Henderson received medical assistance.
Henderson is expected to stay in Mexico City with a member of England's medical staff today (July 6) as the team head back to their base in Kansas City. England boss Thomas Tuchel said that it's not clear whether he will need a procedure at this stage. He said: "He injured his wrist, he's gone to hospital it's quite a serious injury. It doesn't fit with the night. I don't know if there will be a procedure."
Mixed Updates from Teammates
Captain Harry Kane had initially provided a positive update on Henderson. He said: "Jordan [Henderson] just fell over there, I think he's okay, just something to do with his arm." But team-mate Jude Bellingham then raised fears by admitting: "He's in a bit bother but our medical team have it under control."
