Ruth Codd, the Irish actor known for her role in The Celebrity Traitors, has announced she is recovering after a second below-knee amputation. The 29-year-old shared the news in a TikTok video on Wednesday, revealing she had undergone the same operation on her left leg that she had on her right six years ago.
Codd, who first had a leg amputation after a football injury as a teenager, said the decision came after years of chronic pain and multiple surgeries. In a recent interview, she explained that using crutches for eight years had destroyed the joints in her foot, leaving doctors with no option but to amputate.
In the TikTok video, Codd showed off her new wheelchair, which she named 'Fat Tony', and joked about the challenges of recovery. She said she would have to wait at least a month for the limb to heal before being fitted with a prosthetic.
Codd rose to fame on TikTok during the Covid pandemic, posting comedy sketches and raising disability awareness. She has since starred in Netflix series The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher, and appeared in the first series of The Celebrity Traitors earlier this year.
