Raducanu and Draper Out of DC Open After Wimbledon Withdrawals

Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper have both withdrawn from the upcoming Mubadala DC Open, following their respective pullouts from Wimbledon due to injuries. The tournament organisers confirmed on Wednesday that the British stars are no longer in the preliminary field for the ATP and WTA 500 event, which begins on July 27 in Washington.

Raducanu's Stress Fracture Sidelines Her

Raducanu, the British No. 1, withdrew from Wimbledon on Sunday night, just 15 hours before her first-round match on Court 1, citing a stress fracture. The world No. 33 had been managing a niggle that developed into a stress fracture after a final scan. She announced: "I've done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I've been managing has developed into a stress fracture and I've been medically advised to stop pushing through." Raducanu was recently photographed using crutches, indicating a significant recovery period ahead.

Draper's Arm Injury Recurrence

Jack Draper, the former world No. 4, withdrew from Wimbledon on Monday afternoon after reaggravating bone bruising in his left arm. The 24-year-old was scheduled to face Taylor Fritz on Centre Court in a blockbuster first-round clash. The injury forced him to end his 2025 season in August, and he has spent much of the past 10 months sidelined by arm and knee issues. Draper has virtually no points to defend for the rest of the year; last summer he did not play between Wimbledon and the US Open, winning just one match in New York before ending his season.

DC Open Player List Updated

Both Raducanu and Draper had been featured on promotional posters for the DC Open, but they were absent from the player list unveiled on Wednesday. The ATP draw includes defending champion Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Frances Tiafoe, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Lorenzo Musetti, Jakub Mensik, Rafael Jodar, Arthur Fils, Tommy Paul, Alex Michelsen, Learner Tien, and Kei Nishikori. The WTA champion Leylah Fernandez will also compete, alongside Venus Williams, Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, Marta Kostyuk, Iva Jovic, Diana Shnaider, Jasmine Paolini, Anna Kalinskaya, Madison Keys, Emma Navarro, Alexandra Eala, and Liudmila Samsonova.

Tournament Chairman Comments

Tournament chairman Mark Ein said: "Bringing together five of the Top-10 and 15 of the world's Top 20 players, established champions, fan favourites, and the next generation of stars creates an incredible experience for everyone who comes to Washington. As the world's only combined ATP and WTA 500 tournament, we're excited to once again showcase the very best of professional tennis in our nation's capital."

Raducanu's Previous Success in Washington

Raducanu enjoyed an impressive run to the Washington semi-finals last year, defeating Marta Kostyuk, Naomi Osaka, and Maria Sakkari before losing to Anna Kalinskaya. However, her current injury may keep her off the match court for an extended period.

Draper's Coaching with Andy Murray

Draper hired Andy Murray as his coach for the grass season, but only played one tournament—the Eastbourne Open—where he reached the semi-finals. The day before his Wimbledon withdrawal, Draper expressed hope that Murray would remain in his team for the US Open: "This is the start of me and Andy's relationship. I think that will carry on and I think we both hope that's going to carry on. I think Andy really believes in me as a player and he knows I can achieve really, really great things."
