Play was suspended during the Magic Weekend encounter between St Helens and Wigan Warriors after Wigan winger Nathan Lowe appeared to lose consciousness following a leg injury. The incident occurred just before half-time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Incident Details
Lowe, making only his second Super League appearance for the Cherry and Whites, had been performing impressively. He was bundled into touch by several St Helens players and immediately appeared to suffer a serious leg injury. Medical staff rushed to his aid and helped him to his feet to escort him off the pitch. However, as they guided him along the touchline, Lowe fainted.
Paramedics quickly attended to him and helped him back up, but he lost consciousness again and had to be laid down near the touchline. Referee Chris Kendall halted play for several minutes as Lowe received treatment. He was eventually placed on a stretcher and carried down the tunnel.
Medical Update
Sky Sports later reported that Lowe experienced a drop in blood pressure while being assisted off the pitch, causing him to pass out. Earlier in the match, Wigan's Daryl Clark and Ethan Havard had been withdrawn for head injury assessments.
The match resumed after Lowe was taken off, but the incident cast a shadow over the fixture. Further updates on Lowe's condition are expected.
