Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed a new injury blow suffered by Tottenham midfielder James Maddison.
The Spurs playmaker had limited involvement during pre-season, with De Zerbi eager not to rush his comeback after he missed most of last season following surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered in the summer.
Maddison injured in Brentford cameo
However, Maddison was fit enough to be included in the squad on the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign, introduced in place of Mikey Moore for the final 22 minutes of a woeful 3-0 defeat at Brentford.
The 29-year-old fell awkwardly on his shoulder during that cameo off the bench and underwent assessment, with De Zerbi describing the problem as minor in a press conference held in advance of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup second-round visit of Charlton.

“Maddison suffered a small injury in his shoulder,” De Zerbi said.
