Strictly Come Dancing contestant La Voix has delivered a furious retort to her critics after a devastating injury forced her to withdraw from the show's iconic Blackpool week. The drag performer and her professional partner, Aljaž Škorjanec, were notably absent from the famous Tower Ballroom, leaving their future in the competition temporarily on hold.
A Devastating Withdrawal
In an official statement released on November 18th, a heartbroken La Voix confirmed the news. Due to an injury, she has been medically advised not to perform, shattering her dream of dancing in the historic venue. She expressed her immense sadness, stating, "My heart truly breaks knowing I won’t be dancing in such an iconic venue. Aljaž and I have worked incredibly hard, and we were so excited to share our routine with everyone."
Despite the setback, the rules of the competition grant her a bye, meaning she will automatically progress to the following week if she is fit to return. La Voix confirmed she would still be in Blackpool to support the other couples, saying, "I’ll be cheering on all the amazing couples this weekend."
Hitting Back on It Takes Two
Appearing on the BBC's sister show, It Takes Two, with host Janette Manrara, the pair addressed the situation directly. La Voix addressed rumours head-on, firmly stating, "I just want to clarify it's only because I wanted to get out of the samba, that's not true," in a sharp rebuke to online speculation about her motives for withdrawing.
She also provided a glimmer of hope for fans, revealing, "We hope with some rest I can be back." Her partner, Aljaž, echoed the sentiment, emphasising that their journey is not over. He shared his personal disappointment, explaining, "It's hard for any couple - this hasn't ended for us. Your connection to Blackpool. More than ever, every step we were doing, I was thinking of Blackpool. It would have been a big full circle moment."
A Series Plagued by Injuries
This is not the first time an injury has disrupted this series of Strictly Come Dancing. Stefan Dennis, the Neighbours star, and his partner Dianne Buswell were also forced to pull out after he suffered a significant calf tear. While they initially missed one week, the injury ultimately led to his complete withdrawal from the competition.
Furthermore, before the series even began, Love Island's Dani Dyer had to withdraw due to an ankle injury, leading to her replacement by Amber Davies. The consecutive injuries raise questions about the competition's schedule, with uncertainty looming over what will happen if La Voix is unable to return, potentially leading to a drastically reduced final.
