Arsenal's Premier League title hopes suffered a double blow as Kai Havertz and Eberechi Eze were forced off with injuries during Sunday's clash with Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.
Havertz, who has endured a injury-hit season, went down in the 32nd minute after setting up Eze's opening goal. He received treatment before being replaced by Viktor Gyokeres. The German had only recently returned from a four-month lay-off with a knee injury, having also undergone hamstring surgery earlier in the campaign.
Eze, who scored his first goal for the club, then limped off in the 53rd minute and was replaced by Gabriel Martinelli. The England international's injury adds to Mikel Arteta's concerns as Arsenal battle for the Premier League title.
Arsenal knew a win was crucial to reclaim top spot after Manchester City's midweek victory over Burnley. Speaking before the game, Arteta said: 'Five games to go, four weeks. Two big competitions, and everything to play for. Tomorrow is game one. We are all in. Let’s go for it.'
The extent of the injuries to Havertz and Eze is unclear, but their absences could prove costly in the title run-in.
