Jordan Henderson Injured Celebrating England World Cup Win
Henderson Injured Celebrating England World Cup Win

Jordan Henderson was one of the first England players to burst onto the pitch as the full-time whistle blew after their World Cup quarter-final victory. Despite playing only a handful of minutes at the tournament—though he has been booked twice—the midfielder has made his mark at his fourth World Cup. Now, there is a chance he has kicked his last ball of the tournament following what has been described as a wrist injury.

Celebration Turns to Pain

As England serenaded their fans and jumped over the advertising boards behind the goal to sing Oasis hit Wonderwall, Henderson attempted to follow suit. However, he appeared to lose his grip and dropped to the floor, hurting himself in the process. He was clearly in a lot of pain as he lay lifeless on the ground.

It was not initially clear what had happened, as a number of England players formed a huddle that seemed part of the celebrations. It then emerged Henderson was in a bad way. Dan Burn was first on the scene to help his teammate, and medical assistance arrived shortly after.

Medical Update

Henderson is expected to stay in Mexico City with a member of England's medical staff on Monday as the team heads back to Kansas City. England manager Thomas Tuchel said it is not clear whether he will need a procedure at this stage. Tuchel commented: "He injured his wrist, he's gone to hospital—it's quite a serious injury. It doesn't fit with the night. I don't know if there will be a procedure."

Captain Harry Kane initially provided a positive update, saying: "Jordan just fell over there, I think he's okay, just something to do with his arm." However, teammate Jude Bellingham raised fears by admitting: "He's in a bit of bother, but our medical team have it under control."
