Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire from the Spanish Grand Prix following an issue with his brakes after also clashing with Max Verstappen. The Ferrari driver stopped inside the first 10 laps of the race at Madring, ending his run of scoring points in every Grand Prix in 2026.
Early clash with Verstappen
Early into the race, the two rivals went close to crashing, with Verstappen forced off the track to avoid being hit. He was later told to give the place back to Hamilton, which prompted an X-rated response from the Red Bull driver. He ultimately allowed Hamilton to pass, but the Ferrari car soon started showing issues.
Brake failure and retirement
Prior to stopping on the track, Hamilton said over the team radio: "I don't have brakes guys." Sky Sports commentator David Croft added: "Before this race, Lewis Hamilton was the only driver to have completed every lap in sprint racing and Grand Prix in 2026. He has finished in the points in every race in 2026, and he's into the pits, I'm afraid, I think to retire from this Spanish Grand Prix."
