Chelsea have received a massive boost ahead of their highly anticipated Premier League clash with London rivals Arsenal this Sunday, with Cole Palmer declared available for selection after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Major Boost for Blues Ahead of Derby
The Blues are aiming to continue their impressive unbeaten streak when they host Mikel Arteta's Gunners at Stamford Bridge. This fixture comes on the back of Chelsea's excellent 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, a result that has further built momentum for the west London club.
Enzo Maresca's side have been in formidable form, securing five wins in their last six matches across all competitions. However, they face a significant psychological hurdle, having struggled to overcome Arsenal in their last seven encounters. The potential return of a key player could be the catalyst to change that trend.
Injury Latest: Who's In and Who's Out
Cole Palmer has not featured for Chelsea since September 20 against Manchester United due to a groin injury that was later compounded by a fractured toe. The midfielder has missed a total of 13 matches across all competitions, making his comeback a major event for the team.
Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the positive news, stating, "He's available for both [to start and to feature against Arsenal]. His team-mates are happy, we are happy, and the most important thing is that Cole is happy." His potential return date is set for the Arsenal match on Sunday, November 30.
Other Squad Updates
Estevao Willian also has a chance of being involved. The 18-year-old winger took a knock during the win over Barcelona but was able to briefly return to the pitch before being substituted. He is also in contention for the weekend.
The news is less positive for Romeo Lavia, who was forced off early in Chelsea's match against Qarabag earlier this month with a suspected quad injury. Maresca expressed sympathy for the player, noting his prolonged fitness struggles. A return is tentatively scheduled for December.
Meanwhile, Dario Essugo has returned to training following a thigh injury and subsequent surgery he sustained while on international duty with Portugal's Under-21s in September. His comeback is expected in January.
In a longer-term absence, defender Levi Colwill is undergoing rehabilitation after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in pre-season and undergoing surgery in early August. His potential return is not expected until the end of May.
All eyes will now be on Stamford Bridge to see if Palmer's return can provide the spark Chelsea need to finally get a result against their fierce rivals and maintain their strong run of form.
