Michael Carrick moved quickly to ease concerns over Mason Mount after the midfielder limped off early in Manchester United's 1-1 pre-season draw with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
Mount started the match in Gothenburg but lasted under 20 minutes before appearing to pull up. The 27-year-old was replaced by Tyler Fletcher and then headed down the tunnel for assessment, sparking fears of another lay-off for a player who has struggled with injuries since arriving from Chelsea in 2023.
Precautionary measure
Speaking after the game, Carrick said: "He got kicked. We just wanted to be careful and look after him. We've been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful."
Mount has made only 54 Premier League appearances out of a possible 114 since his move. United have two more friendlies before their league opener against newly-promoted Hull City on August 22, facing Leeds United on August 12 and AC Milan three days later.
Summer signings
United have strengthened their midfield this summer following Casemiro's departure as a free agent, bringing in Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea. They are also linked with AS Monaco's Lamine Camara, Everton's Iliman Ndiaye, and Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, though a deal for the latter looks unlikely.
