Rangers teen Odunukan set for England under-16 call-up

Rangers' rising star David Odunukan is set for a stunning England call-up. The Three Lions are set to name the young defender in their squad for the upcoming Tournoi International de Val-de-Marne tournament.

Teen standout since Motherwell switch

The 15-year-old has been a standout since he made the switch from Motherwell to the Ibrox Academy last year. The centre half will be rewarded with a first England call-up later this week.

The Football Association has already been in contact with Rangers and academy chief Brian Gilmour to signal its intentions. Odunukan will travel to France for the tournament at the end of the month.

Tournament and scouting background

England will play the hosts, France, Italy and Japan in the prestigious four-team tournament for their top under-16 players. The central defender first came onto England's radar with his impressive displays in the SuperCupNI, which is formerly the Milk Cup.

FA staff have been scouting and keeping a close eye on his progress and rise since then. The teenager was born in London but moved to Scotland with his family when he was still a baby.

Scotland interest and professional contract

Odunukan has also trained with the Scotland under-16s side at their recent training camps under Steve Clarke. (Not the former national team coach). The Scottish Football Association is also keen to cap the Rangers player and want to call him up for the upcoming age-group World Cup finals.

Former Celtic pair Tobi Oluwayemi and Karamoko Dembele were the last youth players to be called up by England while playing in Scotland. Dembele played for both nations.

Odunukan will be eligible to sign his first professional contract at the turn of the year. He came through the youth ranks at Motherwell before Rangers made their move.
