Rory McIlroy is confident he will retain his PGA Tour status by reaching a compromise, despite a sluggish start at the FedEx St Jude Championship where he posted a four-over score ahead of the final round.
McIlroy skipped the tournament last year but is required to participate this time around to boost his participation record. Should the 37-year-old also play in the BMW Championship and Tour Championship, he will reach 14 events this season, with 15 being the minimum requirement.
McIlroy in talks with PGA Tour commissioner
McIlroy has been in constant dialogue with PGA Tour commissioner Brian Rolapp and firmly believes he will sort something out. He told the Golf Channel: "Brian and I have been in constant dialogue, basically since he took the job last year. I think we've built up a really good relationship and we've had a couple of conversations last week about what I can do with the tour going forward to fulfill the obligation to keep my membership."
He added: "But I think that's good. We've had productive conversations; we're figuring it out and it will all be fine. It will be a little bit of work between us."
Jon Rahm may quit LIV Golf
Concerns have been raised that Jon Rahm is planning to quit LIV Golf. Reports indicate that the DP World Tour is growing confident that they will see more of the Spaniard next season.
LIV Golf has been fighting for survival since the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced they would pull their funding from the breakaway league. They have spent more than £3.7billion ($5bn) in four years but will withdraw their backing from the end of the season.
Sources have told the Telegraph that LIV have almost accepted defeat in Rahm's exit. Should the Ryder Cup hero depart, he is quickly approaching his final tournament. It was revealed on Wednesday that LIV has told golfers the 'Grand Slam Finale' in Michigan is now cancelled, meaning the Indiana event will be the final of the 2026 season and potentially Rahm's farewell.
