Jaissle calls for patience with young Newcastle squad after Coventry loss
Jaissle urges patience with Newcastle young players

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has told his young players they will get the time they need to develop in the Premier League.

After losing 4-1 to Coventry City, Jaissle apologised to supporters for the heavy defeat on the road, but with the task of bedding young players into the top-flight, he believes there is a long journey ahead. Sean Steur, Bazoumana Toure, and Aladji Bamba are all finding their feet in the Premier League, and while Steur and Bamba did not feature at Coventry, the messaging remains one of patience from the backroom team.

Jaissle: We will give them that time

Jaissle told reporters after the defeat: "We knew we had a young squad and knew they needed time, we will give them that time.

"As long as we see the improvement and there is the potential to fulfil, it is important that we are working hard to see improvements week to week.

"Of course, these are young lads, and that can happen. But will support them throughout the whole journey."

Long-term project at St James' Park

Jaissle also referenced his own position, with the young manager adapting to life in the Premier League after serving three years as boss of Al-Ahli. With signing young players now part of the policy at St James' Park, Jaissle knows that greater tests lie ahead.

He said: "We were aware at the beginning. We knew it was a long-term project and a brave journey.

"The club is going through a brave journey. With these ups and downs, we were calculating that.

"We still need to improve and improve fast in the Premier League. Small margins decide games and you saw that in both boxes."

Six games in charge

Jaissle has been in charge for just six Premier League games, with two wins, two draws and two defeats to show for his efforts so far. The Magpies take on Aston Villa on Saturday night with a 5.30 kick off at St James' Park.
