Enzo Maresca is hoping Erling Haaland has avoided serious injury after speaking to the forward following the 3-2 win over Ipswich. The 26-year-old limped off the pitch at full-time and looked in discomfort to raise doubts he could be sidelined.
Haaland's double seals victory
Haaland scored twice to help City to their seventh straight Premier League victory at the beginning of this season, netting one in each half to move the team into an unassailable lead. He thought he had scored a hat-trick after smashing home on the volley late on, although Enzo Fernandez was ruled to be offside when VAR checked the footage.
City's No.9 has scored in his last eight consecutive appearances for the team and already had 12 goals for them in all competitions. But when his next start will come is unclear after appearing to be in some discomfort on Saturday.
Maresca's update on injured players
"I asked him and he said he was okay so hopefully it is nothing serious," said Maresca. "We will see. I don't have any news at the moment."
Haaland was the third of five City players to seemingly pick up an injury in what could turn out to be a costly afternoon for Maresca. Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nico O'Reilly were taken off in the game with issues and substitute Antoine Semenyo then followed Haaland in walking gingerly off the pitch at full-time.
"Unfortunately in 10 minutes we had four of five players - Matheus, Kova, Erling, Antoine and Nico also - but they are inside now and we will see," said Maresca. "I asked all of them. Mateo and Kova said they was okay, Erling also said he was ok and Nico is still his back if you remember against Coventry. It's still the same problem. The only one we need to wait on is Antoine."
