England players have a unique arrangement when it comes to the World Cup. They receive a base match fee of £2,000 for every appearance in a national team game, but they do not keep the money. Instead, they donate 100 per cent of their match fees to the England Footballers Foundation (EFF), an initiative established by senior national team stars in 2007.
Charity Donations and Impact
Since the foundation began, these accumulated match fees have raised approximately £15 million. The funds are distributed to partner charities, including the Bobby Moore Fund, Help for Heroes, and UNICEF.
2026 Tournament Contributions
Playing at least four matches in the World Cup ensures a minimum donation of £88,000 from the squad. This number excludes any additional fees from substitutions and will more than double if they reach the final.
World Cup Victory Bonus
While match fees are donated, players are financially incentivised to win. Reports indicate a lucrative bonus of £500,000 awaits each player if England win the World Cup.
National Association Payouts
FIFA also pays the football associations directly based on team progression. The Football Association (FA) nets £6.7 million for getting through the group stage, which scales up to £37.2 million if England win the tournament.
