Dunfermline Athletic Community Club is mourning coach Sean Hughes, who died peacefully on November 4, just two months after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
Hughes received his MND diagnosis at the beginning of September and passed away following a rapidly progressing illness. The club shared the news, remembering him as a valued coach and friend who devoted his time, energy and passion to supporting players and the wider club community.
Club tribute
In a tribute, the club said his commitment, encouragement and positive influence had touched the lives of many, both on and off the pitch. They added: "Sean will be greatly missed but fondly remembered for the impact he made on so many young people and for being an important part of our club family. Rest in peace, Sean."
The club, run by the Pars Foundation, also extended its deepest condolences to Sean's family, Sandra, Erin, and Kerry, as well as his friends and everyone who knew him during this difficult time.
Grassroots tributes
Tributes have poured in across the grassroots football community, where Hughes has been described as a "fantastic role model". Kirsty Montignani said: "Devastating news. I coached with Sean for a couple of years and you couldn’t find a kinder person. An incredible role model to the young footballers of west fife and an even better person."
Paul Chalmers wrote: "Heartbreaking news to lose such a great man. Always so positive and encouraging to all he coached. Truly one of the good guys in life." Ross Manchip added: "Absolutely devastating news. Sean was a fantastic role model to all the children who he coached and I know he loved nothing more than watching his girls play the game, whether that was at Dunfermline or at Hearts."
