Scottie Scheffler, the World No. 1, is forgoing millions in potential endorsement income due to a highly selective partnership strategy he shares with his manager, Blake Smith. Despite earning an estimated £37.3 million on the PGA Tour and an additional £22.37 million in endorsements and sponsorships, according to Forbes, Scheffler's approach remains deliberately restrictive.
Selective Partnerships Over Lucrative Offers
Scheffler and Smith are aligned on the importance of choosing the right partners, even if it means declining substantial financial opportunities. The American refuses endorsement income from pharmaceutical or healthcare companies, and does not partner with drinks manufacturers, car makers, or video game developers, as reported by The Athletic.
He has also rejected partnerships with gambling firms and prediction markets. Scheffler was among the minority of players who declined a substantial offer from the Tomorrow Golf League, while numerous elite players accepted the opportunity.
Comparing with Rory McIlroy
In comparison, Rory McIlroy, the World No. 2, reportedly collects around £41 million ($55 million) in outside endorsements and sponsorships, significantly more than Scheffler. Despite this gap, Scheffler and his manager remain satisfied with their existing strategy.
Explaining his reasoning, Scheffler said: "It's not necessarily not wanting to do things. It's just wanting to do things with the right people. You know, there's always opportunities out there, but what are the right ones?"
Trusted Advisor and Current Portfolio
Smith serves as Scheffler's trusted sounding board, carefully evaluating every proposal and swiftly dismissing approaches he knows the American would reject. Scheffler previously outlined his philosophy: "I don't take the partnerships lightly. Like I don't want to just work with people that I don't enjoy being around. Days like today would be a real pain in the butt if I didn't enjoy the people that I was with."
His current portfolio includes partnerships with Nike, Rolex, and TaylorMade, alongside commercial opportunities that genuinely appeal to him, such as GolfForever training and Texas Lone Star's Angling Club, a sportfishing outfit.
