Two men have been arrested after dildos were thrown onto courts during WNBA games, with authorities investigating two further incidents. The bizarre trend began during a match between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries on 29 July, when the first object was thrown.
Delbert Carver, a 23-year-old man, faces charges of disorderly conduct, public indecency or indecent exposure, and criminal trespass in connection with the first incident. According to an affidavit, Carver allegedly admitted the act was “supposed to be a joke” and intended “to go viral”.
An 18-year-old and another 23-year-old have also been arrested in separate incidents, though authorities have not yet identified suspects in the two most recent cases. The suspects are all part of Gen Z, a generation raised in the internet age.
The incidents have drawn criticism for disrespecting female athletes, turning their achievements into props for viral moments. Critics argue that the dildo throwing is not just juvenile spectacle but a reflection of a culture fluent in irony and addicted to attention, where absurdity replaces meaning.
