Nathan Lowe, the 6ft 3in striker who joined Hibernian on a season-long loan from Stoke City, has set his sights on winning the Scottish Premiership golden boot. The 20-year-old, who has scored 31 goals in the EFL during loan spells at Walsall, Stockport, and Wycombe Wanderers, aims to continue his prolific form in Scotland.
Lowe's Ambition and Past Success
Lowe, an England U19 international, scored 18 times in 30 games for Walsall and has two Championship goals for Stoke. He told Hibs TV: “Every season I go into my aim is to be the top goal scorer in the league. And sometimes it's paid off. But I always believe in setting yourself high targets, and if you fall short, you fall short. I want to be the top goal scorer in the SPFL this season.”
He also expressed his desire to help Hibs improve on last season's fifth-place finish and make a strong run in the Europa Conference League. “I want Hibs to finish as high up as possible this season, not set limits on that. And then, obviously, have a good run in the European competition. So all these things is what you strive for. And reassess at the end of the season, see how many of them come true,” he added.
Gray's Praise and Lowe's Promise
Hibs manager David Gray described Lowe as a natural goalscorer. Lowe, who made his Championship debut at age 17, brings physicality to a forward line that lost Kieron Bowie to Hellas Verona. He said: “One thing about me is that I will be in the area to score the goals, because that's just the only reason I play football, to score goals. That's what gets me up every morning to go and train. And hopefully I can add to my tally significantly here.”
Lowe acknowledged the challenge of playing in front of passionate fans at Easter Road and away at big stadiums, but he is ready for it. “Doing my research into the club, into the fan base and just seeing how passionate the fans are, you know, getting the chance to play at Easter Road, it's just a real challenge, but a real one that I'm ready for and looking forward to,” he said.
Adam Mayor Joins Hibs
Winger Adam Mayor, 21, has also joined Hibs from Millwall after a loan stint at Cambridge United, where he helped them win promotion. Mayor was convinced by David Gray's vision after watching video clips of the manager's plans. He said: “When I first heard about the interest, I spoke a little bit to them, I had a little call. He (Gray) sent over a few videos of the plan for the team, how he wants to play. And straight away, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.”
Mayor, who made five top-team appearances for Millwall, is excited about the opportunity to play in Europe and in front of big crowds. “It's just the different opportunities. Obviously, you're playing in front of big crowds here at home and then you've got the likes of Celtic and Rangers as well. But not only that, you're going and pushing to play in Europe every season. So, I think it's just a different challenge and a lot of bigger opportunities as well,” he told Hibs TV.
