Anthony Joshua is a step closer to agreeing to fight Tyson Fury in New York. Joshua had been adamant he would only face his bitter rival if the long-awaited clash was staged at Wembley, but the fight is now expected to take place in the United States.
Key demand met
Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn sent a list of demands last month that needed to be met before they would agree to the switch. Those included an increase in Joshua's purse to compensate for the higher tax bill he would face fighting in New York, and he also insisted on being paid his full purse from his last win over Kristrian Prenga – which has now been done.
Netflix and the fight's Saudi Arabian backers want the all-British showdown held Stateside. Hearn now wants the rest of their requests agreed to by the end of the week, which could see the fight announced for November 20 at Madison Square Garden.
Decision this week
"We're all good from the last fight, and we're all moving forward amicably," Hearn told BoxingScene. "We don't want to do the fight in the US, but we also understand it has to work for everybody. We've been banging our head against the wall on that for the last two months."
"We've set out our position, mainly in concern to the tax situation that will deplete his net purse by going to America, which can be rectified. There's nothing unreasonable in there. If they want it in the US, they'll sign it. If not, we'll be very happy, and we'll do it in the UK."
"We are speaking multiple times a day but we are running out of time if they want to do the fight on November 20. We will need to make a decision this week."
