Former Arsenal midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko is training with Ajax as he continues his rehabilitation from a season-ending knee injury. The Ukrainian left the Emirates Stadium in February this year, ending a six-year association with the Premier League club.
Career Path Since Leaving Arsenal
Zinchenko joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2019 under Mikel Arteta. During his time with the Gunners, he made 69 appearances and scored twice. He also had a short-lived loan spell at Nottingham Forest during the 2025/26 season but was quickly recalled after struggling to secure a regular first-team place.
Following his recall, the 29-year-old moved to the Netherlands to join Ajax on a short-term deal. However, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in his second game for the club against Fortuna Sittard, and his contract expired at the end of June.
Training with Ajax During Recovery
Despite the expiration of his contract, Zinchenko has continued training with the Dutch side during his rehabilitation. The Eredivisie champions announced on their social media that the Ukraine international was back in training with the first-team squad.
While Zinchenko is not on a formal contract with Ajax, the club has confirmed he will remain at their training base to complete his return to full fitness. Whether he will be offered fresh terms remains to be seen.
Zinchenko's Gratitude to Ajax
The former Manchester City player expressed his appreciation to the club in a statement posted on Ajax's social media.
"I would like to say a massive thank you to Jordi Cruijff, coach Michel Sánchez and everyone at Ajax for giving me the opportunity to complete my rehabilitation and get back on track," Zinchenko's statement read. "I'm truly grateful to everyone at the club for the warm welcome and incredible support throughout this journey. It means a lot to me."
