Wolves go in search of only their second league win of the season, after 28 attempts, when they face their local rivals Aston Villa on Friday night (8pm, Sky Sports Main Event). Seventeen places and forty-one points separate the two sides, but as we have seen, on their day, Rob Edwards’s team can surprise - their problem has been building on those good results.
Just over a week ago, they came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with the leaders Arsenal, but they followed it up with a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, who had won just once in 11 league games before that victory. Their cause wasn’t helped at Selhurst Park by a missed penalty from Tolu Arokodare and the sending off of Ladislav Krejci just after the hour mark. They fought hard, though, and looked set to come away with a goalless draw, only for Evann Guessand to score his first Palace goal in added time.
Such has been the improvement in performances, betting sites are offering 3/1 on a home win, with an injury-hit Villans hardly what could be described as heavy favourites, despite Wolves’ standing. They have won just three Premier League games since the start of the year against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Brighton, but they are still well placed to secure Champions League qualification.
When the two sides met earlier in the season, there was little to choose between them. Villa eventually broke down a resolute Wolves defence, midway through the second half, when Boubacar Kamara scored his only goal of the season. Despite the recent differences in form between the two sides, Wolves have won three of the last four meetings at Molineux, including last season when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matheus Cunha were both on target in a 2-0 win. Villa’s last win on the road came back in December 2020, when Anwar El Ghazi scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, in added time, after Joao Moutinho has been sent off for the home side. Villa are understandably the favourites with football betting sites, but they have conceded eight goals in their last six games, while both sides have scored in five of their last nine meetings.

Can Konsa strike again? Ezri Konsa has never been prolific as a goalscorer, but he has two goals in his last four matches against Wolves. The defender has only scored eight goals in 223 Premier League games for Villa, and he has not been on the scoresheet for his club since May 2025, when he opened the scoring in a 2-0 win over Tottenham. Since then, his only other goal came for England in their 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Serbia, and he’s a best price of 14/1 on some betting apps to net on Friday.
