Wirtz dismisses form talk after Liverpool defeat

Florian Wirtz brushed aside questions about his recent improvement in form after Liverpool's narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, insisting results matter more than individual displays.

Kai Havertz's early goal proved decisive as the Gunners claimed their first away win over the Reds since 2012. Liverpool failed to register a shot on target, though Wirtz struck the crossbar with a free-kick and the team were denied a penalty for a shirt-pull on Alexander Isak in the box.

Wirtz prioritises team success

The German playmaker has now gone 12 Premier League matches without a goal, but his form has picked up since the expanded September/October international break following a slow start to the season. He returned two goals and four assists from eight appearances for club and country throughout October.

Despite that upturn, Wirtz said individual statistics count for little when the team is not winning. "To be honest I don't care about this so much," he told Stadium Astro. "I just want us to win. I always want to play my best game but in the end the most important thing is that we win games."

Frustration over missed chances

Reflecting on the match, Wirtz acknowledged Liverpool created opportunities but failed to convert them. "I think we just missed out on a few chances we had. I think we were also a bit unlucky in some shots in the end," he said.

"Yeah, it's frustrating of course that we didn't win. We have to keep believing and working hard on ourselves."

Penalty appeal verdict

Wirtz also addressed Liverpool's penalty appeal for Jurrien Timber's pull back on Isak. "I've not seen the actions on video, so can't say much about it," he said. "Probably in some games you would have had these ones as penalties. But it's not like this and we cannot change it so we don't need to speak about it."
