Willie Collum faces fan grilling at Hampden summit

SFA Head of Refereeing Willie Collum has held a summit with fans as he put the big calls from last season and IFAB rule changes under the microscope.

Reviewing last season's flashpoints

Last season's Premiership campaign was packed full of controversial calls with VAR facing major scrutiny on Collum's monthly show on Sky Sports - 'The VAR Review'.

With the new season now underway, the referee chief rounded off his pre-season briefing sessions by meeting with supporters at Hampden.

Fans from across Scotland attend

Fans from Celtic, Dunfermline Athletic, Glasgow City, Hamilton Academical, Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Rangers as well as representatives from the association of Tartan Army Clubs and Supporters Direct Scotland were in attendance for the summit.

A series of clips from last season were shown to the punters before Collum fielded questions, while also running through the new edition of IFAB's Laws of the Game for the campaign.

All 12 SPFL Premiership clubs and all 10 SWPL1 sides were also invited to view the same presentation from Collum at the national stadium.

Collum on engaging with stakeholders

Following the finals talk, Collum said: "Since I've took up the role I have made a conscious effort to engage with all the various stakeholders as much as possible, before, during and after each of the seasons, and this dialogue is hugely important.

"Meeting with supporters was a useful exercise and I am grateful to the supporters who have taken time to attend. We look forward to keeping these lines of communication open throughout the season."

Operations Director at the Scottish Football Union said: "Our thanks to Willie for giving up his time to meet with supporters and answer every question put to him.

"It was an informative and thought-provoking session that left everyone with a better appreciation of refereeing and the importance of seeing decisions from the referee's perspective."
