Manchester United are reportedly set to hold talks with Michael Carrick about extending his stay as manager beyond the end of the season. The 44-year-old has impressed since taking interim charge in January, following the turbulent departure of Ruben Amorim.
Carrick has overseen a notable improvement in form, guiding United to Champions League qualification with three matches to spare and a likely third-place Premier League finish. That resurgence has made the former midfielder the clear favourite for the permanent post, with several players publicly backing his appointment.
Club executives are expected to discuss the matter this week, with reports suggesting chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox will recommend offering Carrick the role. Some bookmakers have even suspended betting on his appointment.
Carrick is due to face the media on Friday ahead of Sunday's final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest. The match will also provide an opportunity for Casemiro to say farewell to supporters, with the 34-year-old midfielder set to leave when his contract expires this summer.
Casemiro has thrived under Carrick, scoring five goals since the interim manager took charge and missing only one match – Saturday's goalless draw at Sunderland. He returned to training on Wednesday alongside Manuel Ugarte, who had also been absent for that game with a back complaint.
