Championship new boys West Ham United have reportedly approached Sunderland for Wilson Isidor, with the Black Cats valuing the striker at £20m.
West Ham's approach
The east London outfit – relegated last season from the Premier League – have reportedly made an approach for the Haiti striker as they consider a loan move with an option to buy. West Ham sources say the Hammers would ideally prefer an initial temporary agreement, although there is no indication that Sunderland have accepted that proposal or are actively looking to sell.
Isidor's situation
Isidor remains part of Regis Le Bris's plans despite Brian Brobbey often being preferred through the middle last season. The 25-year-old scored six Premier League goals and has previously received public backing from the Sunderland head coach. The Haiti international was not involved in Sunderland's latest pre-season fixture against Wrexham after flying back to England because of a personal issue. Le Bris said the matter was not believed to be serious, although it prevented Isidor from featuring during the final game of the club's United States tour.
Potential impact
If Isidor were to move on it would leave Sunderland needing to recruit another striker before the transfer window closes. The Black Cats have already sold Eliezer Mayenda to Rennes, reducing the number of established centre-forward options available to Le Bris. In that respect it would be unlikely they would sanction any move. Brobbey remains the leading choice, but Sunderland are preparing for the combined demands of Premier League and European football. Allowing Isidor to leave without securing a replacement would therefore leave the squad short in a key position. Sunderland would likely require either a significant permanent offer or strong financial guarantees within any loan agreement before seriously considering a deal.
