No wider risk to public after Oxton death, police say

Merseyside Police have said there is "no wider risk to the public at this stage" after Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended a home in Oxton, Wirral, following the death of a man in his 20s. The man was found dead at a property on Reedville on Saturday afternoon.

Police presence for over a day

Neighbours of the deceased man told the ECHO that police arrived at the property more than 24 hours ago and have remained there in large numbers. One resident said: "On some occasions, there's been 11 police vehicles. There's been special units, scientific support, there's been two lots of police cars with unmarked police cars. It's been going on for 27 or 28 hours."

As the day progressed, the resident saw increased activity at the house. She said: "I said [to the police], 'Should we be worried?' Because there's all kinds of equipment going in, I've been watching them from the window, they've turned the whole house upside down. Searching."

Investigation and EOD assessment

Merseyside Police confirmed that emergency services remained in Oxton on Sunday 4 October following a sudden death. Shortly after 3.55pm on Saturday 3 October, North West Ambulance Service reported they had attended a property on Reedville where they found a man in his 20s deceased inside.

An investigation has been launched and the death is being treated as unexpected. The man's next of kin has been informed and a file will be passed to the Coroner. As a precaution, EOD attended to assess and remove substances located inside the premises and determined there is no wider risk to the public at this stage.
