West Ham United overturned an early deficit to defeat Portsmouth 3-1 in the Carabao Cup first round, while Queens Park Rangers were eliminated by Millwall in a penalty shootout.
West Ham's comeback
After falling behind, West Ham responded with three goals. Taty Castellanos scored twice, including a glancing header from Jarrod Bowen's cross, and Bowen himself added a long-range strike to secure the win at the London Stadium.
Portsmouth had taken the lead, but West Ham's quickfire turnaround before half-time put them in control. Castellanos levelled in the 43rd minute, and Bowen put the Hammers ahead just before the break.
Penalty drama elsewhere
Millwall progressed after a 1-1 draw with QPR, winning the shootout 2-0. Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen saved all four QPR penalties.
Other shootouts saw Burnley beat Notts County 4-3, with Kyle Walker scoring the decisive spot-kick, while Barnsley defeated Wigan 6-5. Preston beat Huddersfield 4-3, and Doncaster edged Stockport 5-4.
Other results
Cambridge United beat Barnet 2-1, and Bradford defeated Rochdale 2-0. Bristol Rovers lost 0-1 to Peterborough, and Cardiff edged Swindon 3-2. Blackburn won 2-1 at Burton, and Luton beat Gillingham 3-0.
Norwich thrashed MK Dons 4-1, Stoke beat Oldham 2-0, and Swansea lost 0-1 to Birmingham. Watford edged Crawley 1-0 with a late goal from Marc Bola.
