Wales remain without a win in 2026 after a 2-0 defeat to Denmark in the UEFA Nations League in Copenhagen on Sunday. The result extends their winless run to six games and leaves them without a win or a goal in this campaign.
Denmark dominate first half
The hosts controlled much of the opening exchanges. Gustav Isaksen crashed a drive wide after 15 minutes, and Patrick Dorgu sent a header off target moments later. Mikkel Damsgaard powered a shot into Chris Mepham, and when Isaksen volleyed home Rasmus Hojlund's cross after a slick counter on 25 minutes, it looked like a breakthrough. Wales were handed a reprieve, however, with Hojlund penalised for offside, although replays suggested there wasn't much in it.
Damsgaard then rattled the post with a stinging low drive from distance. Wales ended the first half with encouragement: Sorba Thomas curled narrowly wide, Brennan Johnson powered a freekick into the stand, and Connor Roberts was denied just before half-time, with Filip Jorgensen clawing a close-range effort onto the roof of the net.
Second-half setpieces decide the game
Jorgensen dealt comfortably with a drive from Neco Williams after the interval. Denmark soon took the lead on 53 minutes when Damsgaard's freekick was aimed towards Hojlund at the near post. While the former Manchester United man celebrated, it took a decisive touch off captain Ben Davies, which was later confirmed as an own goal.
Isaksen then grabbed his goal 13 minutes later, guiding a deflected effort home after Damsgaard's freekick was only half-cleared inside the area. Danny Ward produced a smart save to prevent substitute Mohamed Daramy from making it three with a swerving effort from distance 15 minutes from time.
Wales face Norway next
At the other end, Roberts might feel he should have done more to test Jorgensen after guiding a low shot straight at him following good work from Jordan James. Williams sent a header over the bar, while an intervention from Roberts prevented Daramy from finding the target. Hojlund was denied by the offside flag as the game ticked towards the 90-minute mark, and Ward had to be alert to palm away Kasper Hogh's stoppage-time header.
Craig Bellamy made six changes to the side that started in Lisbon, with Charlie Savage making his first competitive appearance. Wales face Norway next at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday.
