Wales remain without a win in the UEFA Nations League after a 2-0 defeat to Denmark in Copenhagen on Sunday. A Ben Davies own goal and a strike from Gustav Isaksen proved enough for the hosts, who were more than worthy winners on another disappointing night for Wales.
Goalkeeper and Defence
Danny Ward was rated 6 and can't really be blamed for either goal. Indeed, the margin of defeat might have been greater were it not for some of his saves.
Connor Roberts (6) was denied in what was his side's best chance of the first half, but should have done better with another strong opportunity after the break. Chris Mepham (6) made a great block to deny Damsgaard in the first half, but was unable to keep a physical Danish frontline at bay.
Ben Davies (6) was as above in many ways, and it would be harsh to criticise him for the own goal. Neco Williams (6) was given a torrid time by Isaksen in the first half but did improve as the game went on. He had a couple of sights at goal, including a header in the second half he couldn't quite keep down, but did give away the freekicks that led to the goals.
Midfield and Attack
Brennan Johnson (5) made a couple of really good runs, one of which helped set up Roberts in the first half, but too often didn't make the most of some promising positions, a criticism that is sadly made all too often of him. He was substituted.
Charlie Savage (5) had a couple of decent moments and a tidy touch or two, but a very quiet outing on the whole. He was substituted. Ethan Ampadu (5) made a couple of decent tackles but was otherwise really quiet on the night.
Sorba Thomas (6) was the star man, curling narrowly wide in the first half and putting in a couple of decent crosses. The quality of end product wasn't always there, but he did at least try to make things happen.
Daniel James (5) had a couple of flashes when his pace caused problems but was pretty anonymous on the whole. He was substituted. Kieffer Moore (5) didn't quite make the most of some promising sniffs of goal, had a shot blocked, and was dominant in the air all evening, but on the whole probably didn't really test the Danish defence enough. He was substituted.
Substitutes
Josh Sheehan (on for Savage 60) was shaken off by Isaksen for the second goal and was rated 5. Jordan James (on for James 68) looked quite lively and set up Roberts with a good chance in the second half, earning a 6. Lewis Koumas (on for Moore 68) had a couple of bright moments but couldn't make something happen, rated 5. Wes Burns (on for Johnson 83) was not rated.
