Jamie Vardy has described his majestic 30-yard volley in Leicester City's 2-0 victory over Liverpool as the finest goal of his career. The striker scored both goals in the match, watched by England manager Roy Hodgson, and now has 18 goals for the season.
Speaking after the game, Vardy said: "It's probably my best, no shadow of a doubt. I just hope there's more of them to come." He explained his thinking for the opener, saying: "When I've been put through, I'm wide but haven't got any support. I've hit it hoping he [goalkeeper Simon Mignolet] is off his line a bit. Luckily he was and it's nestled into the top corner."
The 2019 contract talks and a recent injury setback were also addressed. Vardy had endured a seven-game goalless streak following a groin operation last month but insists he is back to full fitness. "I've got no problems and, as each game comes, we're going to get better and stronger," he said ahead of Leicester's top-of-the-table clash at Manchester City on Saturday.
Manager Claudio Ranieri acknowledged Vardy's difficulties in returning to form, saying: "Now it is one month since he restarted training. Before he didn't train well and played without training. It is not easy. He continued to score but slowly he started to go down."
