Virgil van Dijk has suggested Liverpool are not finished in the summer transfer window after the club completed the £69 million signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. The deal could rise to £79 million with add-ons, taking the Reds' summer spending to £265 million for seven new arrivals.
Ekitike joins Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pesci, Freddie Woodman, and Giorgi Mamardashvili in a major squad overhaul under Arne Slot. The club has capitalised on a quiet previous window and potential departures of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott to fund further moves.
Liverpool recently enquired about Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has informed the Magpies he wants to explore his options. Newcastle are reportedly holding out for £125 million, but the Swedish international has been left out of their pre-season tour amid uncertainty over his future.
Speaking in Hong Kong, Van Dijk said: “Let’s see what happens for the rest of the transfer window. I think it’s all down to hard work, showing our quality and consistency.” The captain praised the new signings for settling in well, while Andy Robertson echoed the sentiment, adding that Ekitike will have his first dinner with the squad.
