Pochettino Names 27-Man USA Squad for Belgium and Portugal Friendlies

Mauricio Pochettino has selected a 27-player squad for the United States men’s national team’s final camp before he decides on his World Cup roster. The team will face Belgium on 28 March and Portugal on 31 March in Atlanta.

Notable absentees include midfielder Tyler Adams, who missed Bournemouth’s draw with Burnley, and Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna, who recently returned from injury. The goalkeeper pool consists entirely of MLS players, with Matt Freese having started most matches under Pochettino.

In defence, Sergiño Dest’s hamstring injury opens opportunities for Joe Scally and Alex Freeman at right-back. The USA have recently favoured a three-centre-back system, with Chris Richards a likely starter alongside Tim Ream, though Ream has had a slow start to the MLS season.

Midfield options include Aidan Morris, who impressed in late 2025, and Johnny Cardoso, whose form has improved at Atlético Madrid. Gio Reyna returns after a promising international window but has played only 28 minutes in 2026 for Borussia Mönchengladbach due to injury.

Up front, Haji Wright’s groin issue leaves Folarin Balogun, Ricardo Pepi and Patrick Agyemang as the strikers. Christian Pulisic remains the focal point despite a dip in form for Milan.
