Tuchel tells Bellingham to 'accept' substitution decision after England win
Tuchel: Bellingham must 'accept' substitution decision

Tuchel's Firm Message to Bellingham

England manager Thomas Tuchel has stated that midfielder Jude Bellingham must learn to accept and respect his decisions after the player showed visible frustration at being substituted late in the game. The incident occurred during England's 2-0 victory against Albania in a World Cup qualifier held in Tirana on Sunday.

A Flawless Qualification Campaign

The match, which took place on Sunday 16 November 2025, saw England complete a perfect Group K campaign. A late brace from captain Harry Kane secured the win, marking the team's eighth consecutive victory and eighth clean sheet. This achievement makes England the first European side to win at least six World Cup qualifiers without conceding a single goal.

Bellingham, who was one of seven changes from the previous match against Serbia, was making his first start for England since June. His game was cut short when he was replaced by Morgan Rogers in the 84th minute. The 22-year-old reacted by throwing his arms up in the air upon seeing his teammate ready to come on.

Respect and Standards are Non-Negotiable

Addressing the media after the match, Tuchel was clear in his expectations. “That’s the decision, and he has to accept the decision,” the German coach stated. “His friend is waiting on the sideline, so you need to accept it, respect it, and keep on going.”

When questioned if Bellingham's reaction contradicted the behavioural standards he has set, Tuchel downplayed the severity but reaffirmed his authority. “I don’t want to make it bigger at the moment than it is,” he said, while adding, “my word stands. It is about standards and level, and it’s a commitment to and respect to each other.”

Tuchel emphasised that the collective team effort should remain the focus, not individual incidents. He praised his squad's progression over three camps and their ability to handle a tough, emotional match in a difficult stadium environment. The manager expressed his pride in the team, saying it was a “pleasure to fight with them.” England will discover their opponents for next summer's tournament at the draw on December 5.
