Thomas Frank has criticised a section of Tottenham's supporters for booing goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario during their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Fulham. The Brentford boss, whose side play Spurs next, said the reaction was 'unacceptable' and questioned whether those fans could be 'true Tottenham fans'.
Vicario made a costly error in the sixth minute, rushing out of his area and miskicking the ball, allowing Harry Wilson to score into an empty net. That came after Kenny Tete's deflected opener had already put Fulham ahead. Tottenham have now lost three of their four home league matches this season, with their only win coming on the opening weekend against Burnley.
Frank, speaking after the match, said: 'I didn't like that our fans booed at him straight after and a few times after that. They can't be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you're on the pitch. I'm fine with them booing after the match, no problem, but not during. That is unacceptable in my opinion.'
Vicario accepted full responsibility for the mistake, stating: 'It's tough because to go 2-0 down after six minutes, you never expect this. Especially the second goal was a mistake of mine. I take the responsibility for that.' On the fans' reaction, he said: 'It's part of football. So I am a big man. Fans have the right to do what they think.'
Fulham boss Marco Silva, celebrating his 200th game in charge, praised his side's first away win of the season. 'We have been really speaking about the games on the road, so it was very important for us to win,' he said. 'The way we controlled our game during the first 35 minutes was pleasing.'
