Tottenham Held by Brighton as Rutter Strikes Late Equaliser

Tottenham Hotspur missed the chance to escape the Premier League relegation zone after Georginio Rutter’s late equaliser earned Brighton a 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Pedro Porro put Spurs ahead in the first half, but Kaoru Mitoma’s brilliant volley levelled the score before the break. Xavi Simons then curled in a superb effort to restore Tottenham’s lead, and they appeared set to claim only their third home win of the season.

However, deep into stoppage time, Rutter lashed home from close range to silence the home crowd and deny Spurs a vital victory. The result leaves Tottenham in the bottom three, at least until West Ham face Crystal Palace on Monday.

The draw ended Brighton’s impressive run of five wins in six matches. Spurs had been hoping to climb out of the relegation zone but now face further pressure to secure results in their remaining fixtures.
