Tottenham Hotspur have reported to the police the racist abuse aimed at defender Kevin Danso following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Brighton. The club described the abuse as “vile, dehumanising racism” and said it would pursue the strongest possible action against those identified.
Danso, who was at fault for Brighton’s stoppage-time equaliser, has been subjected to significant racist comments on social media. The abuse occurred during the Premier League’s No Room For Racism weekend, prompting an immediate response from the club.
“We have heard and seen vile, dehumanising racism. Behaviour that is without doubt a criminal offence,” Spurs said in a statement. The club confirmed it is reporting all identified content to the Metropolitan Police and to authorities in the countries where the perpetrators reside, as well as to social media platforms.
Danso shared the club’s statement on Instagram and added his own message: “The racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere. But it doesn’t define me, and it won’t distract me from what is important.”
The Premier League also issued a statement supporting Danso, warning that anyone found guilty of discrimination will face “the strongest possible consequences, including club bans and legal prosecution.” The league stressed that discriminatory abuse has no place in football or wider society.
