Tottenham Hotspur secured their first point of the Premier League season with a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Roberto De Zerbi's side are still searching for their first goal of the campaign after opening defeats to Brentford and Newcastle. Savio and Destiny Udogie continued their cautious return to action at the City Ground, both being substituted on the hour, but there is no injury concern over the pair.
Maddison closing in on return
James Maddison remains sidelined after injuring his shoulder against Brentford on the opening day. The midfielder came off the bench at the Gtech Community Stadium as he looks to build sharpness following his ACL injury last year. He again missed the trip to Forest, but there is fresh hope he will return to the field after making his comeback to team training. A potential return date has been set for the home game against Everton on September 12, 2026.
Kulusevski back in training
Dejan Kulusevski is back on the training pitch, but his return will be phased cautiously. De Zerbi gave an update ahead of the Forest visit, saying the former Juventus winger had suffered a setback in his recovery. Kulusevski is coming back from a serious patella injury that has kept him out for almost 18 months.
“Kulusevski started [training] with us at the beginning of the week, and then the last two days, a small, small problem, stopped [him from training],” De Zerbi said. “But I think he’s in a good way. It’s going very well. I already said the medical staff is very high level. We can be positive with him. I’m looking forward to having Deki in the squad.” His potential return date is unknown.
Simons out for the year
Xavi Simons is out for the remainder of the year after tearing his ACL against Wolves in April last season. The attacking midfielder has been a sore miss for Spurs, who are lacking in the No10 department, but he has been spotted around the squad in a supporting capacity. His potential return date is early 2027.
Wilson Odobert is in a similar boat to Simons. The Frenchman also tore his ACL last term but is further along than his team-mate. He could make a comeback before the turn of the year, with a potential return date of late 2026.
