Timber Admits Arsenal Must Tackle Title Race Anxiety After Nervy Chelsea Win

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has openly admitted the club must urgently address the anxiety problems that are threatening their Premier League title aspirations, despite securing a vital 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday. The hard-fought win at the Emirates Stadium restored Arsenal's five-point advantage over Manchester City at the summit, although Pep Guardiola's side retain a game in hand.

The match became increasingly tense in the closing stages, with Arsenal playing the final twenty minutes against ten men following Pedro Neto's dismissal. The Gunners rode their luck considerably, requiring a crucial stoppage-time save from goalkeeper David Raya and seeing a late Liam Delap equaliser correctly disallowed for offside.

Struggles with Composure Acknowledged

Timber, who scored the decisive goal in the contest, did not shy away from discussing the team's evident struggles with maintaining composure under pressure. "You feel it, especially at the end. We stopped playing, which was unnecessary, especially when we had a man up," the Dutch international stated candidly in his post-match assessment.

"It’s something we need to work on, and talk about as well. It has happened a couple of times this season already. We got through it before but there have been a couple of times we didn’t," Timber continued, highlighting a recurring issue. "It is part of the game, the energy within the players, the crowd, the anxiety. It’s something we need to address and talk about, but we handled it well today."

Gruelling Schedule Ahead for Gunners

With just nine Premier League fixtures remaining, Arsenal's quest to end a 22-year title wait continues with a trip to Brighton on Wednesday. However, their focus is fragmented by a demanding schedule across multiple competitions, including the Carabao Cup final, the latter stages of the Champions League, and the FA Cup.

Reflecting on the immense physical and mental demands, Timber added: "From the beginning of the season every performance and every three points count. At the same time, I heard it is just nine games to go, but it feels like we are still so far off because we are playing in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup."

"There are so many games to play, and if we look too far ahead it becomes a bit too much. So for now, we recover and look at Brighton," he concluded, emphasising the need for a short-term, game-by-game approach amidst the mounting pressure of the title race and their cup commitments.
