Tielemans urges Man Utd to keep Carrick after poor run
Tielemans urges Man Utd to keep Carrick

Youri Tielemans has urged Manchester United's hierarchy to stand by Michael Carrick, insisting he is capable of turning the club's fortunes around.

Carrick unexpectedly kept his job on Tuesday amid reports he was facing the sack following two heavy defeats. United were beaten by Como and Bournemouth in successive matches, casting doubt over his future. Club bosses considered Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte as potential replacements before deciding to back Carrick for now.

Pressure Mounts Ahead of Chelsea Clash

Carrick now faces a crucial Premier League meeting with Chelsea on Saturday. United have won only two of their 12 matches in all competitions and sit 16th in the table. It is the club's worst start to a league campaign in four decades, yet Tielemans remains convinced Carrick is the right man to lead them forward.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Tielemans said: "I came here partly because of him, because he wanted me here. He wanted me to help the team out. So I'm very happy for him to stay, and the whole group, we don't want a sudden change."

He added: "We don't want a big change that is going to disrupt things more than they are. We just need stability, we need to keep working hard, and it's going to turn at some point."

Struggles Contrast With Last Season

United's only wins this campaign have come against newly-promoted Ipswich and Champions League minnows Sabah. The team has kept just one clean sheet all season and is currently on an eight-match winless streak.

The form contrasts sharply with last term under Carrick, who revived the club's prospects after taking over as caretaker manager in January following Ruben Amorim's dismissal.

Tielemans joined for £35million from Aston Villa in the summer and has enjoyed working under Carrick despite the poor results. "Since I've come in, he's always done his work," the Belgium international said. "He's tried to put a system in place that we all feel comfortable in. I joined this summer, because he convinced me to come over and help the team out."

He concluded: "I can only speak positively about him, and everyone in the changing room would do the same. We all just need to stick together and turn this situation around."
