Thomas Tuchel is reportedly in advanced discussions to become the next England manager, according to sources. The Football Association has approached the German coach as part of their search for a successor to Gareth Southgate, and he is now considered the front-runner.
While no formal agreement has been reached, serious negotiations are anticipated. The prospect of a German leading the English national team may raise eyebrows, but Tuchel is a well-known figure from his time at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League. His CV also includes managing Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
FA executives have spoken to several candidates, including Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, but it is believed Guardiola is likely to remain at City for another year. Tuchel has been jobless since leaving Bayern last summer and has attracted interest from Manchester United.
Interim boss Lee Carsley has stated the FA is seeking a 'world class manager' capable of winning trophies, and Tuchel appears to fit the bill. Carsley was expected to remain for next month's Nations League matches, but the new manager is likely to take over for World Cup qualifying, with the draw scheduled for December 13.
