Thomas Frank could be in line to replace Alvaro Arbeloa at Fulham, should the Spaniard suffer an early sacking. The Cottagers are yet to win a match in the Premier League this season, and surrendered a lead against fellow relegation candidates Ipswich Town over the weekend.
As a consequence of results elsewhere, Fulham finished the gameweek bottom of the Premier League table, with a gap already opening up in front of them. With a must-win match against Hull City on the horizon, the pressure is mounting on Arbeloa's shoulders.
Frank emerges as candidate
There has been talk that the ex-Real Madrid interim could be sent packing just three months into the job. According to talkSPORT, Thomas Frank has emerged as a potential candidate to take over.
Frank made his name during a stellar spell with Brentford, where he turned the west London outfit into an established Premier League side. On the back of that, Frank was hired to take over at Tottenham, but it ended in disaster for the Dane.
Frank's recent spell
Frank lasted until February at Tottenham before being dumped by the capital club. Frank has been away from football ever since but had a stint as a BBC pundit during the World Cup and could now return to the touchline.
The report states the Hull match, as well as a meeting with Coventry City the weekend after, could determine Arbeloa's future. If there isn't a quick turnaround, the Spanish coach will be sacked.
Other options and Arbeloa's response
Other options are said to include ex-Ipswich chief Kieran McKenna. Fulham were believed to be sniffing around McKenna during the summer, before appointing Arbeloa to replace Marco Silva.
When quizzed on his future, Arbeloa said after the Ipswich loss: "I never worry about my position. I don't feel fear. You cannot be a coach if you feel it. You have to work, take the decision and you need to show confidence to your players.
"For me I am so happy with many things that they are doing. I know it is not easy for them. It's not about my position, it is about Fulham's position. That is the most important thing. Obviously it is just six games, but it is true we need points."
He added: "Maybe you don't know me but I played for the best team in world. I have coached the best team in the world. Maybe you don't know, but just to let you know, that pressure is part of my life since I was a kid.
"So, it is normal in football. It is normal for players, it is normal for coaches and everybody that is around a team. I think pressure is something that is important for me and I like it."
