Tenerife vs Andorra abandoned after Jesus de Miguel cardiac arrest
Tenerife match abandoned after De Miguel cardiac arrest

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is in a stable condition in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest following a collision during Monday's Segunda Division match against Andorra. The game was abandoned at 2-2 in stoppage time after the 30-year-old sustained serious injuries.

Incident and Immediate Response

De Miguel was hurt around his head and chest when Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono came out to clear a long ball and appeared to strike the Spaniard with his knee. The forward lay motionless inside the centre circle as players, some in tears, waited for medical attention. Footage shows Owono turning back to check on De Miguel.

On the way to hospital, the Madrid-born forward went into cardiac arrest and was resuscitated by paramedics in the ambulance. Tenerife confirmed in a statement that De Miguel was admitted to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria on the island and is "stable despite the severity of his condition".

Club Reactions and Match Details

"The medical services at said hospital will be present and will report when there are updates," the club added. Andorra posted on social media: "We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today's match. We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family and Tenerife."

Owono's red card was the third of the match. Tenerife had led 2-0 through first-half goals from Christian Gomis and Enric Gallego before Andorra's Lautaro De Leon scored a penalty in the 83rd minute. De Leon was then sent off after a skirmish with Tenerife goalkeeper Dani Martin, who received two yellow cards in quick succession. Stefan Golubovic equalised for Andorra before the match was abandoned.

Background on De Miguel

De Miguel signed for Tenerife in 2025 on a three-year contract after the club's relegation to the third tier. He helped the team earn promotion back to the Segunda Division, scoring 11 goals in 29 games. After spending most of his career in the lower leagues, he played his first professional match with Castellon in 2024. Tenerife sit four points above Andorra in the standings.
