Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United not to be hasty in sacking Michael Carrick following a poor start to the season. In an interview with The Athletic, the former United manager said dismissing Carrick is not the answer.
Ten Hag backs Carrick
Ten Hag said: “It is not the solution to dismiss him. 100 per cent not. Fans will demand this if results don’t improve — it is coming out from the stomach, from the emotion. You have to make rational decisions. He showed good coaching abilities at Middlesbrough and last season. So let him do his process. I think he has a good staff.”
The Dutchman’s comments come as Carrick faces mounting pressure at Old Trafford after a disappointing run of results.
Rational decisions urged
Ten Hag highlighted the need for rational thinking over emotional reactions, pointing to Carrick’s previous coaching record as evidence of his capability.
His remarks suggest patience is needed while Carrick works to turn the club’s fortunes around.
